We have a fireplace and one side is the TV and the other on a stone wall. approximately 8 feet between the fireplace and the wall of the room. I would like to arrange space for photos and books, but I do not know if we drill holes in it. Can and what materials and tools needed to do this?

You can get wet, ie water cooling and lubrication of diamonds. The situation is incredibly complicated, and I do not recommend it.

When you are ready to buy a drill, "Hammer", and carbide-tipped masonry bit you can do to dry. If you want to opt for it, and all the holes and setting adjustments for each hole is located near the center of a stone. I did not drill the mortar. This can lead to weakening the mortar inches around the hole. Once you have holes, using lead (my preference), the plastic inserts for each hole, and install shelves with screws. I recommend that you at least an inch deep holes, and install adds depth. Choose the screws hard enough that it almost touches the bottom of the hole when the Rays guaranteed.
